ABOUT THE MURAL
In My Diary of Depression, Muklay takes the audience on a personal emotional journey, now shared in Tokyo, a city that balances vibrant energy with quiet moments of reflection. The long-unseen black-and-white drawings resurface as symbols of the roots of depression: raw, honest, and sometimes heavy entries of a visual diary. Beside them, the colorful paintings step in like visual antidotes, radiating energy, healing, and hope.
By presenting this body of work in Japan, Muklay opens a conversation between personal experience and universal human emotion, showing how art can cross cultures to express vulnerability, resilience, and transformation. Together, the two mediums build a layered visual story: from facing the pain to reshaping and releasing it through creativity.
This exhibition becomes both an intimate reflection and an invitation for viewers to recognize that even in the darkest moments, there is always a path toward light even if the journey is messy, complex, and beautifully colorful.
