ABOUT THE MURAL

When Seeds Grow is my interpretation of a living tree—one that thrives not only in form, but in the fruits it bears. Before arriving in Tokyo, I visited Compostela, a lush province in Davao, Philippines. This piece pays homage to the richness of farm life in that region and the deep familial roots I reconnected with during my time there. Inspired by days spent on my family’s farmland—lined with banana trees and thriving with cacao, durian, pawpaw, and coconut—I sought to reimagine a symbolic tree, infused with the essence of those fruits and the memories they hold. Blending the rhythms of nature with the depth of personal heritage, When Seeds Grow explores themes of growth, belonging, and abundance. It celebrates how experiences—like seeds—can take root and quietly flourish in unexpected, beautiful ways.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Mark Bravo is a Filipino-born artist, raised in Australia and currently based in Sydney. His work is known for its mesmerising abstract style that seamlessly captures the essence of nature and the interplay of colour, sound, and movement. Mark’s artistic journey is a testament to his passion for translating the beauty of the natural world into expressive visual form. Deeply inspired by travel, everyday interactions, and his profound connection to nature, he creates works that are rich in emotion and energy. His art draws on sensory experiences—echoes of sound, shifts in light, and fleeting moment which he transforms into layered movements.
Themes of colour and rhythm permeate each piece, creating a visual symphony that invites viewers to questions and immerse themselves in the mood and motion of his world. In 2024, Mark reached a significant milestone with his first solo exhibition—a long-held goal that reflects his dedication and artistic growth. His portfolio also includes notable exhibitions such as the 2016 Blacktown Art Prize, the 2017 Burwood Art Prize, and participation in the 2022 Inner West Creative Art Trail. While his work continues to gain recognition for its distinct style and emotive impact, Mark remains grounded in the inspiration that drives his creativity: a lifelong love of nature. This deep connection is evident in every brushstroke, as he continues to invite art enthusiasts on a journey of exploration, reflection, and appreciation for the beauty of the world around us.
