    ABOUT THE MURAL

Building on the fish mural he first created for the BnA_WALL and FUSION collaboration, Isaac Nicholas Caruso developed an underwater scene for the third-floor stairwell. While visitors move upward through the enclosed space, the mural presents the opposite sensation: a quiet, weightless moment beneath the water’s surface. This contrast between climbing higher in the building and descending into an underwater world creates a surprising and immersive experience. Caruso also considered the natural stairwell lighting, allowing the light from the right side to illuminate the figure so that she appears naturally integrated into the space.

    ABOUT THE ARTIST

Isaac Nicholas Caruso (b. 1988, Phoenix, Arizona) is a public artist, muralist, and creative director known for large-scale works that connect communities through visual storytelling. With a background in graphic design from Northern Arizona University, his murals combine realism, vibrant color, and street art influences.

His projects span murals, sculpture, and public installations across the United States and internationally. In 2023, he published Sam & Sara, an innovative children’s book illustrated entirely through murals across Arizona, making him one of the first artists to create a full narrative book using murals as the sole medium.

In 2026, Caruso joined the FUSION residency in Tokyo, where he will created a new mural at BnA_WALL.
