This room is made by randomly constructing and arranging walls of various materials and patterns.
 
The artist BIEN focused on the process in which walls are constructed. In the early phases of building BnA_WALL Hotel, this room you sit in was subdivided from a large empty floor to create smaller private rooms by constructing walls. BIEN saw these rooms as a kind of fiction created by “walls” that we construct.
 
Various types of walls line the room like a collage, and its veneer surfaces are carved out revealing the bare substrate; exposing the fictional nature of this space.
On the other hand, the furnishings are a collection of hand selected pieces resembling an old motel creating a strange sense of unity.

About the artist

Born in Tokyo in 1993. BIEN’s works are based on drawing. He has been inspired by street culture, animation, and figurines. BIEN paints abstract paintings and makes installation works, inheriting various ways of expressing that represents these cultures. He tries to dissolve and reconstruct symbolic meanings.
